  1. Be kind and patient with yourself.
  2. Feed your soul, daily. (if you need help with this one, call me and we can figure it out together)
  3. Find a form of exercise you enjoy, then allow yourself time regularly, even daily, to do it.
  4. Set some goals (learn a language perhaps? ;-)). Make them realistic, then plan to work on them daily (even briefly, 10 minutes is good).
  5. Be kind and patient with yourself. Even if you don’t accomplish what you thought you would (daily or long term).
  6. Connect with others. Get out there!
  7. Be in service to others. Whether it is family or community, when you are doing for others it is impossible to feel sorry for yourself.
  8. Talk with a supportive friend when you are down, one who will hear you so you can let it out and then let it go.
  9. Be present.  Take time each day, really anytime you remember, to breathe.  Breathe in your surroundings.  Look, listen, be with where you are.  If you don’t years will pass, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t appreciate what you had.  🙂
  10. Practice resilience.  It is the one thing we need for any change, and wow, have things changed!

And again, BE KIND TO YOURSELF. Living as a foreigner is not easy, so cut yourself some slack. Get some help so you can fully enjoy your time abroad.  Then get out there and go for it.  So much to see, learn, experience, and the views along the way are amazing.  Remember to stop, breathe, and appreciate.
